THE LORD WILL BRING WORLD PEACE

Micah 4:3

And he shall judge among many people, and rebuke strong nations afar off; and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruninghooks: nation shall not lift up a sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more.

Scholars tell us that in all of recorded human history, there have only been a scant few years of worldwide peace.

That’s a depressing fact, a very grim reality. On planet Earth, war is the norm. Armed conflict is the rule. Even as fighting begins to die down in one place, new hostilities erupt in another.

And the cost of all this warfare, all this terrible bloodshed? Impossible to tabulate.

Thus the beauty of the prophet’s promise of permanent peace. The day is coming, Micah declared, when God’s Messiah will rule over every nation, over the whole earth as King. When that happens—and it will happen!—war will become a distant memory, a relic of the time before Love reigned.

As you watch the nightly news or read reports from war zones, as you observe all the saber-rattling between nations, remember that the Prince of Peace, when he comes again, will bring global, eternal peace. He will. It’s just a matter of time. 

GOD’S PROMISE TO ME:

• When I return, I will bring ultimate, permanent peace to the earth.

MY PRAYER TO GOD:

O God, thank you for the certainty that the world is destined for true peace. In the meanwhile, give us leaders who are committed to the Biblical value of peacemaking. Amen.
