THE WISE GAIN KNOWLEDGE OF GOD

Apr 10, 2024

Proverbs 2:1,5-6

My son, if thou wilt receive my words, and hide my commandments with thee; Then shalt thou understand the fear of the Lord, and find the knowledge of God. For the Lord giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding.

More than anything in this world we should desire wisdom. King Solomon knew that. When God offered him anything he wanted, he chose wisdom in order to rule God’s people well (see 1 Kings 3:9-10). His advice to us is to seek wisdom with everything we’ve got (see the book of Ecclesiastes).

We can discern wisdom when we hear it so that we will know what is wise and what is not. Sometimes wisdom comes through experience, and we will need to figure out what we’ve learned.

God’s Word invites us to search for wisdom as we would for lost money or hidden treasure. God promises that when we do, we will understand what it means to fear the Lord, and we will actually gain “knowledge and understanding.” Now that’s a promise worth pursuing!

God is the source of true wisdom. If our search for wisdom doesn’t lead to him, we will find only a poor imitation of wisdom.

GOD’S PROMISE TO ME:

• As you gain wisdom, you will gain a deeper knowledge of me.

MY PRAYER TO GOD:

Father, open my ears to your wisdom. Help me to recognize wisdom when I hear it. I pray that in all of my seeking, I will find it, for you are the giver of wisdom. Amen.
