GOD IS TRIUMPHANT OVER DEATH

Jan 7, 2024

Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: [26] And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?

John 11:25-26

We will not dwell here on the fear of death—the terrible uncertainty that so many feel at the thought of caskets and funeral homes and the “hereafter.”

We will not try to remedy the sadness of death. What sentiments can convey the incalculable sorrow felt at the loss of a loved one?

Instead we will simply ponder the words of Jesus printed above. We will picture Christ standing in a Jewish graveyard, speaking to the weeping friends and family members of a man named Lazarus. There Jesus is—can you see him?—declaring in a clear and calm voice his absolute power over death. Specifically he gives assurance to all who trust him that death is not the end.

Whatever else you think or feel about death today, embrace that truth.

GOD’S PROMISE TO ME:

• Those who believe in me do not have to fear death.

• The one who believes in me will live again after death.

MY PRAYER TO GOD:

Lord Jesus, keep me from grieving like those who have no eternal hope. I praise you for triumphing over the grave. I do not have to live in fear! Amen.
