GOD WILL CAUSE YOU TO OVERFLOW WITH HOPE

Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost.

Romans 15:13

It’s a pretty grim world out there, don’t you think? Grouchy, grinchy neighbors. Dour, sour co-workers. Journalistic purveyors of doom and gloom.

A cynical outlook is the opposite of hope. Cynicism says, “I already know the outcome, and it’s grim.” If ever anyone had a right to be cynical, that person was the apostle Paul. Take a look at his record of hardships (see 2 Corinthians 4:8-9). Yet Paul encouraged believers to “overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” Having a hopeful outlook despite hardship is proof of the Holy Spirit’s presence. The hope he provides is anchored in trust—trust that God sees, that God loves.

Perhaps trials have made you doubt. Maybe hope seems impossible to grasp, and you’re feeling like a fountain without water today. God understands. Turn your heart to him. Let him fill you to overflowing with hope. 

GOD’S PROMISE TO ME:

• If you trust me, I will fill you with hope.

MY PRAYER TO GOD:

O God, restore my hope. Help me take my eyes off my problems as I hope in you and wait on you to act. Amen.
