GOD PROMISED HIS SON

Dec 24, 2023

December 24

But thou, Beth-lehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting.

Micah 5:2

In the eighth century BC, “because of the sins of the people of Israel” (Micah 1:5), God stirred up an obscure prophet named Micah to speak stern words of warning and judgment.

As with all the other Old Testament prophetic books, it’s hard to read these seven short chapters without wincing and cringing. And yet the inspired Micah includes a few promising notes of hope. He reminds us that while God is holy and just, he’s also gracious and faithful and loving.

One promise that would have been precious beyond words to Micah’s original audience? The one above—that from the tiny, insignificant village of Bethlehem would come a ruler with origins from before time. A king who would shepherd the nation with great strength. A king who would bring ultimate security and personify peace.

Can you use divine strength and peace this Christmas season? Trust in the King who was born in the manger of Bethlehem.

GOD’S PROMISE TO ME:

• I am faithful even when my people are faithless.

• The child of Bethlehem is the King of kings!

MY PRAYER TO GOD:

Father, this Christmas I praise you for loving me enough to send your Son. Help me to focus on your divine strength and peace. Amen.
