GOD EXCHANGES PEACE FOR WORRY

May 10, 2024

Philippians 4:6-7

Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

People spend a lot of money on security systems for their homes. Some businesses even have security guards at the entrances to their buildings.

Even if we’re not business owners, we could all use a security guard—one around our heart and mind. Fears and worries come in, attack and overwhelm us sometimes. If our hearts had a guard, the guard would say to worry, “Sorry, you don’t have clearance. You’ll have to leave.” And then worry would simply go on its way. As security guards offer peace to a building’s inhabitants, we too would have peace, knowing that no worry or fear could gain entrance.

When worry comes knocking at our heart’s door, God promises a way to guard us from it: pray. God promises that he will give us peace, a peace that is far more wonderful than we can ever understand. That peace will guard our hearts and minds from fear and worry.

GOD’S PROMISE TO ME:

• You don’t have to worry about anything, but instead you can pray about everything.

• When you tell me about your needs, you will experience my peace which passes all human understanding.

MY PRAYER TO GOD:

Lord, help me to focus on you so that when worry tries to get in, your peace will send it away. Guard my heart and mind today with your presence. Amen.
