YOU CAN SAY “NO” TO UNGODLINESS

For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;

Titus 2:11-12

Jesus’ whole life was characterized by his submission to his Father. He said things like, “Very truly I tell you, the Son can do nothing by himself; he can do only what he sees his Father doing, because whatever the Father does the Son also does” John 5:19

As believers who have the Holy Spirit in our lives, we too should be living in complete submission to God. Of course, we cannot be perfect as Jesus was, but we are to take Paul’s advice and “say ‘No’ to ungodliness and worldly passions,” and “live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age.” When we live in this way in our evil world, it will make a difference.

Sooner or later, each one of us will be tempted by godless living and sinful pleasures. We can pray that we will keep our focus on our devotion to God in order to maintain self-control and right conduct as we look forward to the return of Jesus. 

GOD’S PROMISE TO ME:

• When you are devoted to me, you will be able to live in this world with self-control and right conduct.

MY PRAYER TO GOD:

Lord, help me know the right thing to do in every situation, and give me the courage to do it. I want to honor you in my choices. Help me to serve you, to build your kingdom and to grow spiritually, so that I will be ready when you return. Amen.
