GOD SUPPLIES EVERYTHING YOU NEED
But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4:19
The first-century Christians at Philippi were generous. On several occasions they collected and sent financial aid to the apostle Paul. Later, when they learned Paul was in a Roman prison, they promptly dispatched Epaphroditus to relay their concern and to present Paul with a large financial gift to make his incarceration more bearable (see Philippians 4:18).
Perhaps all this giving severely depleted their material resources. Or maybe the economy in Macedonia took a turn for the worse. Whatever the case, the implication of the last few paragraphs in Philippians is that these open-handed believers suddenly were facing financial needs of their own.
Paul’s inspired words contain a wonderful promise: God will provide for his children. The verse also reminds us of the divine law of reciprocity stated elsewhere: “Honour the Lord with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase: So shall thy barns be filled with plenty, and thy presses shall burst out with new wine.” (Proverbs 3:9-10).
GOD’S PROMISE TO ME:
• I will supply all your needs.
MY PRAYER TO GOD:
Lord, you pledge to meet the needs of your children. Keep me from being stingy—with my time, treasure or talents. Deepen my conviction that I can give myself and my stuff—freely and fully—and that you will be faithful to provide all I need out of your glorious riches. Amen.
