Let us be godly and faithful for God’s sake alone!

May 24, 2023

This Psalm of David clearly reflects the failure of God’s people during his time. Today, we still see the same thing happening to many followers of Christ thereby leaving the needy, the weak, and the vulnerable confused, with no direction. There is nobody to guide them. How then can we be godly and faithful?

Anybody faced with the same dilemma should be so concerned. This would threaten the present and future generation lose their love for the Lord and their goal of preparing the next generation face their battles.

No wonder King David prayed earnestly and cried unto the Lord to intervene. He sent plea to the Almighty God that we also desperately need today. What were the concerns of David?

 I.  The Godly man ceaseth.

It is a major problem when a godly man quits. He does not simply quit. He quit doing what is good and right. He stopped being a testimony and a bold witness. The quitter I am sure has thrown his standard down the drain and replaced them with ungodliness, giving way to the devil..

The Saved are the true and godly people, chosen to be a witness and to declare the good news. We are the carriers of the Gospel. We are supposed to be the embodiment of strength, courage, passion, and faith that come from the Lord.

We cannot afford to quit. No parents can afford to quit before their children or the Pastor before his Church. Too often we quit because we think we can face the battle alone. We forget that our enemies are supernatural and they can only be defeated by the faith of the Son of God. We cannot depend on our natural power and wisdom. We must not put God aside and then use Him when needed. We need Him always.

In being godly, we focus not to become God or be like God. Godliness is the total dependance of Christ. He is alone we look up to for He the perfect embodiment of being godly.

We are godly because of God in us to manifest and glorify. It is never because we are good!

The next reason David gave:

The faithful fail. It is so tragic and ironic to see the faithful fails. The faithful must not fail, if he is truly faithful. Maybe, he is a person who was genuinely faithful and because he wanted to remain faithful that he decided he could do it alone by just being faithful to his tasks.

When one becomes so obsessed with tasks, the likelihood of being tired, bored, burnt out is common. Soon his body gives way to weakness. It is because he only entertains the idea that as long as he remains faithful and doing the the tasks is okay. The problem is, he becomes more focused and faithful in completing the task that he fails to see and recognize the presence of his Taskmaster. Have you ever experienced being so overwhelmed and tired in spite of doing a great task? I did, until I realized the my Master, my taskmaster and savior is more important than the works I do. It is only when I focus on the Master that I can accomplish and complete the tasks. Praise God!

Lesson/Application

In living and in serving, our focus must be to the Giver of Life and the TaskMaster. Our focus must not be on the life we live but on the Life-Giver we serve. Without our eyes focus on Him, nothing is accomplished and no jobs are completed. Remember that God gave us life to enjoy HIM and please Him forevermore.

Similarly, the faithful fails because they are more focus on being faithful to the works assigned them and not to the Lord, our Master. Yes, they want to think they are faithful without realizing that they are only doing the tasks faithfully. But are they faithful to the Master!

This is like a workaholic servant who does not listen to the advise of his master to rest and to take it easy sometimes. He was not paying attention and listening to his boss because he was too involved and faithful to the tasks. Consequently, he fell ill, got burnt out and quit. Let us learn that whatever we do, our eyes must continue to focus on the Lord, our gracious TaskMaster. This is the great example that Christ left us with. When He came down for us. He can certainly do all the things the Heavenly Father wanted Him to finish, but His desire was only to obey and please the Heavenly Father.

Conclusion:

We need to be like King David in today’s generation. Let us remain godly not because we can do it, but because God and the Holy Spirit is in us, who work in us and through us.

Since God has already saved us and gave us faith, we can therefore be faithful in life and in the service of the Lord. Let us not lose sight of the Lord in the midst of busy in the work.. We are here to only glorify Christ. Our faithfulness must be focused, not on the tasks but on the TaskMaster who is worthy to be honored and praised.

Let us all be godly and faithful people of God, willing to advocate, support, and fight for the sake of the children and the needy. Let us do it because we want to glorify God above all!
