Recovering of Sight to the Blind

Luke 4:17-18 - “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind,…”

Giving sight to the spiritually blind is one of the most remarkable results of Christ’s work of redemption. It pictures a sinner without any hope of seeing to experiencing the light of God gloriously. In this case, it is the spiritually blind who is void of sight and one who has always lived in darkness. 

The “blind” in our text refers to a child of God, a person who was seeing before whose sight turned dim. The cares and lures of the world blinded his spiritually good sight. He is a believer blinded by sin and in need of spiritual restoration. 

We have many Christians in this condition today. Because of the cares of this world and the daily attacks of temptation, many of God’s people have given in to the world and are again entangled in the affairs of this world. They have lost their zeal for the Lord and their desire to serve. 

The body of believers must never abandon and neglect these people. They have to be reached and be restored into fellowship with God. These are people who have never adjusted completely to live for Christ. They need a better view and understanding of God’s will.  

They have never been disciplined completely and prematurely pushed to serve without proper spiritual training—consequently, discouragement results. With discipleship through prayer and edification, they can develop a better spiritual sight through the power of God’s word. Romans 10:17. 

Conclusion:

Gaining back their spiritual sight will give them another opportunity to enjoy the abundant life God offers. Their backslidden experience will encourage them to cherish and protect their fellowship with God and enjoy the opportunities of service and blessings.
