Who Is on the Lord's Side?

Moses is one of the most prominent figures in the Old Testament. He was the man chosen to lead the Israelites from captivity in Egypt to salvation in the Promised Land. This led to the wilderness journey that lasted for 40 years.

Among his many many supernatural encounters with God, one that stands out in my opinion was the time when he was invited to meet God face to face and survived the experience. There he was given the 2 tablets of stone containing the 10 commandments.

While he was having this glorious encounter and receiving the commandments, something seriously wrong was going on with his people that God had to make him go back.

After being warned of God, Moses came down and saw the wickedness of the children of Israel worshipping a golden calf with his brother, Aaron, leading. I am sure it was a devastating blow for Moses to come back from meeting God in Mt. Sinai with the 2 tablets of stone in his hands, only to find the people turned their backs away from God Almighty.

Filled with righteous indignation, Moses condemned their sin of idolatry, broke the 2 tablets in pieces, and pulverized the molten calf and made the people drink it. He then asked this heart-searching question, (the same question we need to ask ourselves today), “Who is on the Lord’s side?”

Do you wonder why it was so easy for the nation of Israel to backslide, knowing that Moses was up on Mt Sinai before the presence of the Almighty God to receive the 10 commandments, in which the first one was already being disobeyed and broken?

Did they really believe in the God of Moses? Considering that they already had witnessed God’s incredible and supernatural power that would make any man tremble in fear. They enjoyed His protection, daily provision, saw many miracles He performed that should have made them realized He was the True and living God.

What made them forget so quickly and what led Aaron give in to their sinful demands? Could it be due to selfishness and pride? Maybe, they felt God was busy with others things and Moses and not with them that they felt the need and created a replacement, a “god of their own imagination.” They were so full of pride and not realized that what God and Moses were doing in Mt Sinai was for their benefit.

Lesson/Application:

This is so true with most us today. When we find ourselves facing difficult life’s challenges, feeling alone, or on a crossroad, we allow ourselves entertain several opinions that we forget that God is all we need and He is all we have.

Have we forgotten that God is the only way, the truth, and the life? That He is ABSOLUTE, and the Great I Am. He is not one of the choices and not one of the priorities in life. He is not the #1 in the list. He is the only ONE, Who is ever present and constantly abiding in us. But are we abiding in God?

“Who is on the Lord’s side, who will serve the King?

Who is on the Lord’s side, who will live for Him?”

Won’t you be on God’s side, crown Him as your king?

Yield to Him completely, commit everything and all to HIM.”

Prayer:  Our Heavenly Father, may we always remember that it is only YOU we need. Help us to surrender our All to you: our life, our ambition, our desires, our yearnings, and everything we have all for your glory and praise. In Jesus Name, Amen!
