We Deserve Nothing, Yet God Gives Everything

Ephesians 1:7-9 “7 In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace; 8 Wherein he hath abounded toward us in all wisdom and prudence; 9 Having made known unto us the mystery of his will, according to his good pleasure which he hath purposed in himself.”

This passage highlights the profound truths of our faith and reminds us of God’s abounding grace, His wisdom, and His desire to include us in His eternal plan. There is salvation through the blood of Jesus and through Him, we find redemption—the release from the bondage of sin—made possible by His sacrificial blood. Our sins are forgiven, and we are reconciled to God.

We also find the riches of His immeasurable grace, and overflowing with kindness and favor. It is through this grace that we receive redemption. There is wisdom and prudence in God’s plan for our salvation which is marked by divine wisdom and understanding. He orchestrates everything with perfect purpose. The mystery of His will has revealed His purpose to us. It is His good pleasure to bring us into His kingdom through Christ.

We recognize that we are undeserving of God’s grace and forgiveness. These gifts cannot be earned, they transcend any merit we might claim. Our moral goodness, no matter how commendable, falls short of deserving God’s favor. In fact, all the good we do is merely our duty - what we should have done. While we are yet sinners, when we least deserved it, when we were not “worth it” by any earthly standard, Christ made the greatest sacrifice. His act of love on the Cross stands as the pinnacle of history - God gave His only begotten Son, Jesus; He gave His life - a profound demonstration of grace.

God gives everything. There is nothing God has withheld. There is nothing we lack. So much of what we have been given can be accessed in the here and now - daily strength and power for living - but even that which we cannot yet access in this fallen world and in this mortal life has been made certain through the indwelling of the Holy Spirit who acts as a “deposit” guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession - to the praise of His glory.

God’s sovereign power is a living force that shapes our hearts, minds, and souls. His sovereignty extends to all things - not only the creation of the world, but also its sustaining and governing. God exercises complete control over everything that happens on Earth, and His will is the final cause of things. In summary, God’s sovereign power encompasses His authority, control, and active governance over the entire universe. Despite our unworthiness, God graciously provides everything we need through His Word.

Our Prayer for Today:

Our loving Father in Heaven, we thank you for we receive what we do not deserve. Lord God, thank you for Your great love, we embrace this unearned, lavish love - the very love that transform or hearts, and fills us with awe and thanksgiving. Thank you for Your countless blessings and may your grace, mercy and peace be with us in all the days of our life. In Jesus name. Amen.
