God said, “I Am Your Exceedingly Great Reward!”

In the quiet moments of devotion, we find ourselves seeking God’s presence. His promises echo through the

corridors of our hearts, and in Genesis 15, we encounter a profound exchange between God and Abram. It’s a conversation that transcends time, revealing the depth of God’s love and commitment to His people.

In Genesis 15:1 God said, “Do not be afraid, Abram. I am your shield, your exceedingly great reward.” These words resonate beyond mere reassurance. Their significance can be inspiring understood through:

A Personal Relationship: When God says, “I am your shield,” it’s an invitation into intimacy. Not a distant deity, but a Father who knows us intimately. He speaks directly to Abram’s fears, acknowledging their shared journey.

The Shield: Imagine Abram, battle-worn and victorious. He had just defeated a coalition of kings. Yet, fear lingered—the anticipation of retaliation. God steps in as Abram’s shield, guarding him against every assault. In our battles, God remains our protector, deflecting arrows of doubt and despair.

The Exceedingly Great Reward: Abram’s heartache lay in his childlessness. He longed for descendants—a promise unfulfilled. God’s response? “I am your reward.” Not merely material blessings, but abundant favor, glorious futures, and the fulfillment of every longing. God Himself becomes our ultimate reward.

How does God shield us in our battles? As God’s people, we find assurance in His protective care during our battles. These are some of the ways in which God shields us: By trusting in God’s promises, we find comfort and strength. His Word assures us of His presence, guidance, and protection.

When we seek refuge in God, we find safety and shelter. He is our stronghold, surrounding us like a fortified camp, shielding us from harm Through prayer, we communicate with God. We can ask for His protection, guidance, and strength as we face challenges.

Other ways are living in obedience to God’s commands brings His favor and protection. When we follow His ways, He shields us from harm. God gives us Ephesians 6:10–18 which encourages us to put on the armor of God. This spiritual armor includes faith, righteousness, peace, and salvation. It helps us stand firm against spiritual forces of evil . We are assured that God provides wisdom to navigate battles. Also by seeking His guidance and making wise choices shield us from unnecessary harm.

Surely, staying connected to the church and fellow believers provides support, encouragement, and prayer during challenging times. Likewise, recognizing God’s presence with us brings comfort and assurance. He walks alongside us in our struggles. We can cast our anxieties and burdens on God. He cares for us and shields us from overwhelming worries. Then our offering praise and thanksgiving acknowledges God’s sovereignty and protection. Gratitude strengthens our faith.

Do you have areas of your lives that need His reward? Can we embrace Him as our exceedingly great reward? Let us always remember that God fights for His people, and His love and power are our shield in every battle. God’s promises are not empty words; they are the foundation of our faith. May this devotion time be a sacred space where we encounter our great God who shields and rewards abundantly.

Our Prayer for Today:

Lord God, we come before You with a heart full of gratitude and anticipation. You are our God who promises rewards to those who seek You diligently. Just as You spoke to Abraham in a vision. We earnestly pray to the Lord, for our pursuit be relentless like Moses. Let us hunger for Your presence more than anything this world offers. When doubts arise or circumstances threaten to distract us, remind us O Lord that You are the ultimate Prize. Your nearness is worth every sacrifice, every trial and every waiting season. All of these we ask, pray and believe. In Jesus Name. Amen.
