The Path to Blessedness

May 31, 2023

Everybody wants to be blessed. Most of us perceive “blessing”

as something we receive and enjoy. We always hear people saying, “thank God, we received a blessing.” It makes us glad when we see others share their blessings like, “I received a raise or praise God, He gave me a new car.” There is nothing wrong with that. I believe we should always praise and appreciate God for everything we receive from Him.

Our text, however, presents blessing as something we DO and not only something we GET. First of all, we know that no one will never have the ability to be blessed or even desire to do good and live right without first of all receiving the greatest blessing, the gift of salvation through Jesus Christ. It is this relationship with God that enables us to have the privilege of having the desire and the commitment to be blessed and be a blessing.

To be blessed is to be a blessing first to our God and the people around us. King David gives here the paths to blessedness:

1.Do not follow the counsel, advice, opinion, and standard of the ungodly.

•Seek godly counsel and fellowship with godly people.

2.Do not be involved or participate in the way sinners live.

•Love the sinners but avoid living like them and participating in their sinful habits

3.Do not sit idly and behave like the scornful.

•Stay busy in the work of the Lord, instead of scorning and judging others.

4.Always delight in God’s word by hearing, reading, and doing it cheerfully.

•Have a cheerful and exciting anticipation read and study God’s Word.

5.Develop the habit and discipline of communing with God every day and night.

•Schedule a daily fellowship with God alone during your personal quiet time.

Doing the above faithfully will certainly please God. It will also bless those who see you. Consider this not as a duty or a burden, but as a privilege given by God to praise and glorify Him.

Here is the result - God will bless you more abundantly:

1.You will always be nourished, cleansed, and refreshed by His Word.

2.You will be fruitful and more abounding in the work of the Lord.

3.Your life and countenance will not only look healthy, but it will also bless and help others.

4.Additional and more bountiful blessings will always come your way.

Conclusion:

David says, “not so with the ungodly and sinners!” All the so called “blessings” they think they have are like chaff and will all be blown away to nothingness. Their “blessings” will all be revealed as useless. For the believers, they will never stand as proofs worthy of rewards for they will all burn. The sinners or the unsaved will never stand with the righteous for they will perish.
