Renewed Strength When We Wait

Mar 5, 2024

Isaiah 40:31 - “But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.”

“If the Lord Jehovah makes us wait, let us do so with our whole hearts; for blessed are all they that wait for Him. He is worth waiting for. The waiting itself is beneficial to us: it tries faith, exercises patience, trains submission, and endears the blessing when it comes. The Lord's people have always been a waiting people,” (by Charles Spurgeon)

In our fast-paced world today when life often feels like a tug-of-war between hurry and wait, the idea of waiting may seem excruciatingly difficult; we have been conditioned to have things at our convenience and have it now. We’re caught in the tension of deadlines, expectations, and our own impatience. Yet, in God’s light, waiting is something God places in our lives for a purpose. Scripture reminds us that learning to wait on God’s timing is always our best option. For in this season of waiting, we discover profound lessons about trust.

As what Isaiah had stated in this verse, those who wait, especially in God, their strength will be renewed, because as we wait, God is asking you and me to rest, Jesus said to come to him those who labor and are heavy laden, for He shall give us rest (Matthew 11:28). Waiting isn’t wasted time; it’s an invitation to encounter the Almighty. Even when answers seem elusive. We can rest assured that God loves us with an everlasting love.

Moreover, there is a renewed strength when we wait on God and rest upon his power, and Jesus made that available for us. We will soar like eagles, run and not be troubled, and walk and not be discouraged as we rest in the power of God while we wait for his moving. God speaks to our hearts through devotions, sends encouragers along our journey, and opens doors when we trust and wait upon His will.

Furthermore, in this period of waiting, we know that God is still working. There's a lesson God is teaching us that even waiting on God is undeniably challenging, His plans are always better than ours and it could also be the best. We must trust the process, for in the waiting, we find strength, renewal and deeper intimacy with our Creator.

Going back on Matthew 11, verse 29, Jesus said, “Take my yoke upon you’ and learn of me” -  that means that we will never learn of God if we are always on the go, always on the run, but,  let’s wait a minute, stop, look, listen, and rest in him.  I may not know what you are going through, what you are waiting on or waiting for, but Jesus does. Seek Him and put your faith and trust in our all-knowing God who holds tomorrow. The question that we should always be asking the Lord is - “what is the Lord teaching us?” Rather than, “how long will this take?”

Our Prayer for Today:

Almighty Father, today we ask Your help us to wait on You, to have that patience to know that You are in control and not us. O Lord. help us to rest upon You as we wait, be strengthened and learn from You and of You alone. Give us the grace to commit all things to Thy hands, rather than hurry and stress ourselves with things that perhaps we may not have control over at all. Father, we commit Your people to You, teach us invaluable lessons during our waiting seasons. We lift up to You our hearts and minds to trust You fully and have Your abounding grace to wait, rely on You and share Your love to others, in Jesus precious name we ask and pray. Amen!
